Aspiring Matriarch

Bright-eyed and good-humored, Kaju is a woman with a zest for life and connecting with others. A recent immigrant from a life previously spent exclusively in the Black Shroud, Kaju has emerged to find she has all sorts of things to learn and people to get to know. Nevertheless, she strikes out to discover these things with smile in her eyes and song on her lips. She is unhesitant to greet others and, should she see they need help, offer assistance. At the same time, being a seasoned huntress from the wood, she is more than capable of fending for herself if needed.With the winds of war shifting life as she knew it, Kaju decided it was a good time to come out and see what the rest of Hydaelyn offered. Watch out, Eorzea! This Keeper is out for adventure!... Or will get distracted every other step with BABIES!

Basics

Above all things, Kaju is a very maternal person. When she sees anyone in need of care, she will likely offer it. She has a particular weakness for children and babies. Perhaps surprising no one, Kaju's maternal leanings and wish to be a Matriarch also mean that she tends to orient herself to a community over herself. While of course caring for individuals is important, ultimately, having emotionally healthy individuals means having a healthy community, and she will absolutely try to promote that.Kaju is fearless in her love of life and meeting others, which means she is also generally unconcerned about how silly she can make herself look, as long as she's having fun! Her enthusiasm for life reflects a general optimism she holds for people and situations that happen. Even when things appear to be difficult, her faith in not only herself, but others, and wanting the best despite results tends to prevail.Coming from a line of bards, Kaju has an affinity for song and storytelling. While she does not often actively put these talents on display, preferring, instead, to rely on caretaking or hunting skills to earn her keep, her affection and attunement to music and stories come to the fore when she is trying to foster a certain emotion or atmosphere around herself, whether it is comfort, awe, beauty - aught that would soothe a person's heart or spirit.While Kaju didn't have the thought in her to venture out of the Twelveswood until late in her life (there is more than a lifetime's worth of goings-on in the Black Shroud, after all), she is not one who shirks trying out new things. The star is an oyster for her to feast on, filled with experiences and things she hasn't known before! While she has the wherewithall to have common sense around people, she isn't averse to try trusting first and regret later.

History

Kaju grew up and lived most of her life in the Twelveswood in a fairly traditional Keeper band. Her mother was a bard in her youth before becoming a Matriarch. At age 15 or so, Kaju left to learn about the lives and songs from other peoples in the Twelveswood. When she thought to return to her family, she found them gone. Feeling they were unlikely to have gone through anything worse than just moving on to another place to settle, Kaju continued roaming until she met a young miqo'te male by the name of Rijo'li Jakkya. Learning that he had no real 'people’ to be with just as herself (as he was the product of a Seeker tia who raped his Keeper mother), Kaju and he decided to travel together.In time, the two misfits picked up other misfits in the Twelveswood who didn’t fit in with Gridania such as Duskwights and Ala Mhigan refugees, and became their own motley crew - deemed poachers by proper Gridanian law, as they lived and respected the wood their own ways. For a time, Kaju thought with such a network, she could work to become a Matriarch herself - but such was not to be.After the liberation of Ala Mhigo and with the restoration of Ishgard underway, many members of their band sought to better their lots in life. Being a branded poacher out in the Twelveswood was not very prosperous, after all. Their group eventually disbanded and Kaju decided to try her hand out with adventuring while Rijo'li - ever stubborn - remained in the Twelveswood.Presently, Kaju has found a 'home base' in The House of the Hidden Pearl, where she has not only made new good friends, but reconnected with old ones. While trying to figure out what she could do now that she had no band of her own like she did in the Twelveswood, the Keeper found herself taking on small adventures and levework every now and then with her new friends, broadening her world experience this way, and also feeding that maternal draw working for an orphanage in Moraby and in serving as a nanny for her friends who have children.
